Olympic National Park - Day 1

It's been pouring rain since we arrived, so today we're driving up to the Hoh Rain Forest since we'd probably be getting wet walking there anyway. We started in Copalis Beach, where we're staying, and headed North on the Western side of Rt 101. Rt. 101 rings the entire park, there is no way go across.  We set out for Hoh but saw a sign for Ruby Beach and pulled in there.  The beach looked beautiful but by then the rain was really lashing and there wasn't a lot of protection so I stayed at the top and took pictures.

The Road into Hoh Rain Forest

We continued on to Hoh. The Visitor's Center is about 20 miles in from the road and we wanted to stop there to get a trail map.  The road in is beautiful, luckily for us, as the storm had knocked a number of trees down, closing the road about half way in, so we had to turn around.  We'll visit another day.

On the way back to Copalis Beach, we passed a sign for the Duncan Cedar and decided to stop.  The road in was in bad shape when we were there but it lloked as if they were working on it.  When we got in there is a short walk from the car park to the tree.  The Duncan Cedar is the world's largest Western Red Cedar.  It's basically just a skeleton now, but is still amazing to see.
